Remember arcade shooters, those ones
where you would sit in a chair looking down a huge gun
turret and shoot at plains in the sky, until you either run
out of ammo or you die? Air Raid, a new addition to the
gaming world from Big City Games, is exactly this type of
game, except it’s free, well technically not free, but you
only pay once for unlimited arcade fun.

You play a
gunner on a World War II battle ship; you are docked in a
number of locations what seem to be around the world, but
you can’t really tell there isn’t that much detail. |

The
Graphics are poor; they must be using a 5 year old engine,
with very low detail textures as can be seen from the
screenshots, and when you fire and miss a plain your bullets
explode on hitting the sky! |

Granted for the first ten
or twenty minutes the game is actually fairly exiting.
Then when you realise that you have nearly a 100 levels
of just more and more plains to shoot out the sky it
gets dull. Each mission changing in a very slight way
and getting harder and harder, with plains doing air
stunts which I am sure are impossible! This game just
gets repetitive and boring! Your fellow gunners in their
gun turrets just sit there and do nothing to help you
fight off the hordes of plains!
The Sound FX don’t make the game any better, to begin
with you get played winy 1940’s music while you sit in
the gun torrent and do nothing for 5 minutes until there
is an air raid. You are then attacked from all areas by
plain which all sound the same, no special effects, just
the bog standard low buzzing grunt that every cartoon
plain makes.

There
isn’t much more to the multiplayer side of the game,
actually there is nothing more other than you are doing
the same levels with the help of another gunner over a
network.
To me Big City Games aren’t very well known, and they
are going to stay unknown if they keep producing games
like air raid. This short review shows how little there
is to the game, as there is nothing to talk about! This
most certainly isn’t a game to be proud to own. One
thing that I would say is good about this game is if you
have 10 minutes to kill, this is a quick time filler
that can be picked up and put down very easily.

Good for a bit, then
it gets boring monotonous and tiring to play. |

The
Graphics are better than Doom, I’ll give it that.
Below Average. |

Not Awful, but most
certainly not good, there isn't actually that much
to it! |

This game for me,
lasted 10 minutes, I got to level 13 and got bored! |

| Learning
Curve : |
7/10

Its easy to pick up,
but the game does get challenging so it does take a
little while to get really good at it, if you want
to get really good at it. |

Overall

Shoddy,
Tiresome, irritating, and mind numbing are
just a few things that come to mind. Although
it does give you ten minutes of fun every now
and then, but it takes longer to install the
game than it does to get bored of it! |
