PCRules.com - Grado SR-60 Headphone Review by Adam Faight

Developer: Grado
Release Date: Out Now In The US
Avg. Price: $65

For those of you unfamiliar with Grado Labs Inc., the company has been making headphones since the 1980's and was inducted into the Audio Hall of Fame in 1982. Joesph Grado recently passed on the position of President to his nephew John. John has lead the development of the Prestige and Reference series of headphones which have received world wide acclaim by the Audio Press and of course from us :).

When we received the pair of SR-60's they were well packaged and even came with a warning about the dangers of high levels of noise to hearing. Fortunately though, the Grado line of headphones are designed to filter out a good bit of harmful noises that may damage hearing. But you should still use caution, but we know you won't.

Overall when I put the 60's on I found them to be very comfortable...actually the most comfortable pair of headphones I've ever used. And as we all know comfort is a large issue when it comes to headphones as a majority of us wear them for hours on end. I used the 60's for 4 hour stretches at a time and not once did I have to readjust or did I suffer from any form of ear fatigue. So when it comes down to comfort, the SR60's are pro-choice.

Of course one of the most important factors when looking for headphones is how well they perform. I mentioned above that Grado headphones are very popular and they are popular for one main reason.....their great sound quality. The 60's sounded absolutely incredible. The sound was extremely surreal and for the price tag that the 60's come at (now about $65) you cannot beat this deal.

I put the 60's through quite a bit of testing in games, music, and movies. The first game I loaded up was my all time favourite, Unreal. Known for its rich and ambient soundtrack. The bottom line, I've never experienced Unreal on an audio level quite like I did at that point using the SR60's. Everything was so clear and crisp, the low, mid and high end levels of audio we're all present and clear as day. Everything from water falling in a distance, to the sounds of the native creatures, or the bullet from your gun penetrating the wall were all heard with great clarity. I then tested the 60's out on a plethora of other games, movies, and music and found the same that I did when testing them with Unreal. Everything sounded great, and better than it ever did before.

To add to what I just said, one of the most impressive features of the 60's is the fact that they never lose audio quality at the high end and mid range levels which is something you can rarely say for any other pair of headphones on the market today.

The only draw back to the 60's is their weak bass performance. The bass is present but just not in a big way. But this is something that won't be an issue for the majority of the users that use these headphones.

Simply put the Grado SR-60's are the best headphones I've ever had the chance to use. The High end and Mid range sound levels are absolutely incredible. And the sound in games and DVD's is nothing short of amazing. While you pay a bit more than conventional headphones, the performance and clarity of the 60's outweigh the price greatly. I recommend the SR-60's to any hard-core gamer that wants to get the most out of their gaming. And to any person that wants to get the best quality out of their music and DVD's.

Performance: 10/10
The best pair of headphones i've ever used!! High, Mid, and Low level of detail is superb.

Price: 10/10
For the quality of these headphones, $60 is well worth it.

Comfort: 10/10
Definitely one of the most comfortable pair of headphones I've ever used.

Quality: 10/10
Headphones are all around very well built.

Updates: 10/10
The SR60's will be all you need for quite some time to come.

Overall : 50 /50

The SR60's are an excellent choice for anyone looking for an option beside regular desktop speakers or for those looking for a very high quality pair of speakers.
