PCRules.com - Hitman 2: Silent Assassin Review by Justin Long

Developer: Io Interactive
Release Date: Out Now
Avg. Price: $49.99, £24.99

Although UT 2003 has my vote for the best first person shooter. Other games hang out in my mind for being just plain exciting. Hitman 2 is one of those games. For those who aren't familiar with the series Hitman 1 put you in the position of 47. 47 was a clone, a perfect cold blooded killer, that could get the job done.

After a bunch of missions and some revenge you disappear. Everyone thinks your dead, or never existed, but your past is about to come back to haunt you. Enter Hitman 2. A terrorist, discovers a recent hit you made, leading him to believe you are still alive. So he tracks you down and kidnaps a priest you've been staying with. This bring you back from retirement, and into yet another action packed story.

I've successfully played this game through, on normal mode and I will tell you that some of the missions are the hardest I've seen in a game. The game play is very nice, missions range from sniping to sneak in kill the guy and sneak out. This game is mainly based on being silent, some missions, if you go balls to the wall you will fail, this creates more of a challenge, but in the end makes it fun. Another thing I saw was A.I., which is good and bad. On one hand if you do anything suspicious, or that puts you out of place the enemy will know. On the other an enemy being able to tell your not one of them when your in a full suit that covers your face, when your a good distance from them in a blizzard is, in my opinion a defect. So it has its ups and downs, but over all make the game more interesting. Controls which were a pain in the first Hitman, have been simplified in this new version. Although some key tweaking was made to make it even easier when I played Overall the game play was excellent, it was a challenge, even in normal mode, and keeps you in the action. The game also has a lot more missions than the first Hitman, which extends the game play.-

As with all games graphics for a consumer such as me or you have to be good to define that game for us. Well this is one of those games. Every thing is very detailed, from the buildings, to the cloths everyone wears. Because it is hard to say graphics are good . The one bad thing I found was voices of characters. They didn't have any lip movement, or it was really off, but at least there was voices for you to listen to.

What besides graphics make a game good? Just like any other game The game has music that sets a mood, and the realistic sound effects from you and your surrounding environment make for good play.

This game takes the Hitman series to a new level. The detail and story are enough to keep you playing. The weapons are sweet, and the much needed update of controls are there. Level of difficulty ranges, but keeps the challenge alive and there is always a different way to win. I would love to see this game come back with a new story and even more weapons for your choosing.

Graphics : 8/10
Good graphics and fairly good charcter animation make Hitman 2 a great sequel.

Game play : 9/10
Pretty much the same as the original but nothing wrong with that right. Gameplay is great and keeps you entertained.

Sound & Music : 8/10
Very nice touch and draws the players deeper into the games environment.

Longevity : 8/10
Hitman 2 definitely has replay value though if you found the old hitman repetitive you won't relish this sequel.

Learning Curve : 10/10
Easy. Straight foward and simple to learn.

Overall : 43/50

This is a worthy sequel, with excellent graphics, good sound and game play with only a few bugs in the A.I. If you liked the first you'll love this.
